Hate getting sick in Winter? Me too,
but eating live fermented foods definitely helps. So much so that I was bragging recently in my fermenting workshop that I hadn’t been sick once in the last 4 years because of it.So when I woke with a niggle in my throat earlier this week, in my arrogance I thought nothing of it. But when my temp started to rise I conceded that an incursion through my wall of good bacteria may have occurred. I admit it may have been the lack of sleep and stress of the past few weeks that had contributed.However I had a secret weapon which I knew I could count on.
Fire Cider, also known as Fire Tonic or Master Tonic is a super potent protector against viruses, parasites, fungus, bad bacteria and even pesky winter weight gains.Unlike antibiotics or cold & flu tabs that suppress your immune system it works with it to burn out the nasty invaders. In my experience having a shot every couple of hours when you feel symptoms coming on will burn the flu out of your body within a day!
Your bod will also benefit from the boost in circulation, energy and detoxification that it provides.
Be warned it tastes like dragon fire but I would trade 5 seconds of pain per shot than being crook in bed for days. Especially being a man, as we all know man flu can be potentially fatal 😉My favourite thing? It’s super simple to make and lasts forever in your medicine cupboard.Recipe:
•Big chunk of ginger chopped rough
(1/2 cup if you wanna be specific)
•One head of garlic, peeled
•1 onion, chopped rough
•Half a lemon, peel and all
•3 or 4 chillies, or as many as you want you maniac!
•Cover all ingredients in apple cider vinegar in 1L jar and steep for day or two before commencing to put hairs on your chest.
This is the basic recipe but you can also throw in cloves, rosemary, horseradish, turmeric and honey to make it extra powerful!
Vinegar preserves everything so like I said it’ll last pretty much forever.Life tip: a tablespoon before dinner is great to get your digestion firing.
I also enjoy it in hot water with honey as a spicy hot toddy 🙂
